Biography
Richard Perle is professor emeritus of information systems and business analytics at Loyola Marymount University. He started teaching at LMU in 1975 and retired in 2021. He is an expert in management of information technology, management science, and operations management. Perle also served as the director of LMU’s University Computing Services and director of the Business Research Center. Outside of academia, Perle was a consultant in management science/operations research as well as marketing research, a financial analyst, data acquisition systems engineer, electronic engineering specialist, and a product planning engineer for various organizations in California and across the country. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Kappa Psi, Omega Rho, and the Society for Information Management.

A Markovian Model for the Valuation of Human Assets Acquired by an Organizational Purchase

A corporation acquires the assets and liabilities of a securities brokerage firm for a price in excess of net book value. A Markov analysis is used in conjunction with human resource accounting to value a pool of account executives employed by the brokerage firm. The tax implications of imputing a portion of the purchase price premium to the pool of human assets (as opposed to goodwill) are discussed.
